Last week Lawrence and I wrapped up our first season of Grow or Die, and he picked a timely topic in my life at the moment: Transition.
Aside from my general addiction to treating my life like an Etcha-Sketch, it's particularly resonant at the moment because I'm in the middle of a new and somewhat unexpected transition in my own life. After just under a year in Florida, I'm packing up to move to Grand Junction, Colorado.
While there are a hundred different reasons that this has come to pass, what I am struck with most right now is a sense of gratitude for the fact that I made it a point to do yet one more thing I'd always wanted (live in Miami), and then allowed myself off the hook when I realized it wasn't working out instead of stubbornly sticking to the plan for the simple security of having a plan.
If there was one lesson I would wish the 45-year-old version of me could teach the 25-year-old version, that might have to be it. At the very least, it's a comfort to realize that the 45-year-old me is getting better at it.
So, to that end, I'm going to go on a bit of a hiatus while I finish packing up myself and Macallan Roosevelt, driving a 20-foot truck with a car behind it half way across the country and moving into a new home in the high desert of Western Colorado. A place, quite ironically, my mother lived as a child. And one of the last places in the country I had previously ever been willing to consider.
Fortunately, one of the highlights of my time in Miami has been the Grow or Die podcast I do with Lawrence. I love the work we've done, and I'm looking forward to picking it up again once I get to the other side of the Rocky Mountains.
Since February, we've covered all manner of topics -- Navigating Shame, Managing Anxiety, Activating Resiliency, Accountability, Boundaries, Identity and more. It's been a great conversation, and I'm very grateful to him for helping me get this off the ground this year.
Even better, everything has finally syndicated properly, so you can check out the podcast on iTunes, Spotify, Anchor or YouTube.
Lawrence and I have received fantastic feedback about the podcast, and I'm thinking about some ways to shake things up a bit when we return for Season 2 at the end of the summer. If you have any suggestions, we're all ears.
For now, I'm going to sign off. I leave Miami at the end of next week, and will return to regularly scheduled emails once I take care of trivial little things like finding a place to live.
